our recycling resources
Several factors contribute to the overall scope of resources utilized for manufacturing. At Maryland Paper Company, our stock inventory consists of three major categories of recyclables: OCC (old, corrugated cardboard), Mixed Paper, and DLK Paper which are supplied by our affiliated companies, Golden Bear Recycling and Golden Bear Environmental. Golden Bear manages recycling programs for several major entities including the Kroger, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and more. These reputable sources ensure a quality product stands at the forefront of our closed-loop system and creates the baseline for quality stock.
what we use.
dlk (Double Lined Kraft)
Kraft Paper, German for “strong”, is known for its durability, versatility. Produced primarily from the clippings of finished boxes, DLK is known for its strength and cleanliness, making it applicable to a broad variety of uses. Similarly, it is more cost efficient than virgin fiber.
occ (old corrugated cardboard)
OCC is recycled cardboard that is collected and maintains a contaminant percentage per ISRI standard. Contaminants include staples, styrofoam, plastics, etc. and contribute heavily to the quality of the finished products after entering our system. The utilization of OCC poses extensive benefits within its low carbon footprint, role in landfill diversion, and cost efficiency.
mixed paper
Mixed Paper is a fiber source containing mixed house-hold recyclables. These can include newspapers, colored paper, discarded mail, magazines, catalogs, etc. and are often the hardest to manipulate into a clean product. These mixed bales, however, are often cost efficient and when screened properly, offer a wide variety of uses within paper making. With our mill focusing on the production of building materials and packaging, we consume Mixed Paper based on the variety of our finished products and their application. Mills producing paper to be utilized for printing and writing do not always possess this luxury. We are able to add levels of landfill diversion and apply a ratio of mix to our stock.
